Article image description

Typhoon Ragasa is causing widespread disruption across the northern Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China. The storm has brought destructive winds, torrential rain, and life-threatening storm surges, prompting mass evacuations and significant travel disruptions throughout the region.

Key Impacts

  • Philippines: Northern Luzon and the Babuyan Islands have experienced severe winds and flooding. Domestic flights and inter-island ferries have been suspended, and local authorities have ordered evacuations in vulnerable areas. Essential services, including power and telecommunications, may be disrupted.

  • Hong Kong: Authorities have announced a rare 36-hour shutdown of Hong Kong International Airport, with all passenger flights suspended from Tuesday evening. Residents and travellers are urged to stay indoors and follow official updates.
  • Southern China: Coastal provinces, including Guangdong and Fujian, are preparing for mass relocations, airport closures, and ferry shutdowns as Ragasa approaches.
  • Viet Nam: Authorities are preparing for possible impacts from 25 September.
