Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Overview

The security situation has deteriorated in Israel following exchanges of military strikes between Israel and Iran. We now advise that New Zealanders do not travel to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Further military exchanges are to be expected with an ongoing threat of missile and rocket attacks across Israel. Israel has declared a national state of emergency.

New Zealanders in Israel should follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor local media for developments. If there’s an attack take immediate shelter. Monitor updates via Israel’s National Emergency Portal (accessible in Israel only).

Be aware that the security situation could deteriorate further with little warning. Flight cancellations due to airport and airspace closures are to be expected. New Zealanders in Israel should shelter in a safe place and consider departing once it’s safe to do so.

There is a heightened threat of terrorism throughout Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Attacks could occur at any time – the situation is highly unpredictable. New Zealanders are advised to be security-conscious at all times. We advise extra vigilance during public and religious holidays, and anniversaries with heightened tensions.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories should have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air. Check that your travel insurance policy covers travel to the Occupied Palestinian Territories – exclusions may apply.
