Exercise normal safety and security precautions

Overview

Some things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Taiwan should be aware of are:

  • Natural disasters and severe weather - earthquakes are common in Taiwan. The typhoon season usually runs from May to November. Make sure you know what to do in a natural disaster or severe weather event.
  • Local laws - make sure that you get to know the local laws and customs, especially around drugs and medicines.
  • Pedestrian safety - many roads lack formed sidewalks.  Be alert when crossing roads.

The numbers for local emergency services in Taiwan are 119 (Fire and Ambulance) and 110 (Police).

New Zealanders travelling or living in Taiwan should have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air.
