Exercise increased caution

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand. Civil unrest and political tension is common. Avoid all demonstrations, rallies and large public gatherings as even those intended as peaceful have the potential to turn violent with little warning.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Zimbabwe should be aware of are:

  • Crime - violent crime, such as muggings, armed robbery and home invasion, occurs and there are reports that foreigners and residents have been targeted due to their perceived wealth.
  • Outages – provision of basic services such as electricity, water, telecommunications and transport can be unreliable.
