Exercise increased caution with higher advice levels in some areas

Overview

There are more significant safety or security concerns than you would usually find in New Zealand because of the unpredictable security situation. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Conflicts in the Middle East could result in an increase in tensions elsewhere in the region. The security situation in the region could deteriorate without notice, and may result in travel disruptions. Monitor the media to stay informed about current events in your travel destination.

Other things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Azerbaijan should be aware of are:

  • Civil unrest—demonstrations and protests happen and can disrupt travel plans. Avoid these and follow the instructions of local authorities.
  • Terrorism – there is a threat of terrorism.
  • Local laws—make sure that you get to know the local laws and customs, especially around photography.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Azerbaijan should have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air.
