From 25 February 2026, if you’re a New Zealand citizen and also have British or Irish citizenship (dual national), the United Kingdom government has advised you must travel to the UK using either a valid UK passport or Irish passport or any other valid passport with a certificate of entitlement. You will not be able to travel without one of these documents.
Dual nationals cannot get an electronic travel authorisation (ETA).
If you are travelling before 25 February 2026, and you have a valid passport for a nationality that can get an ETA, you can use it to travel to the UK without an ETA or a certificate of entitlement.
For more information on UK dual nationals, read the following advice from the UK:
As the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade does not issue visas for foreign countries, we cannot advise on your right to enter or stay in a foreign country.
