Mexico: Security situation in Jalisco and other western states

On 22 February 2026, Serious security incidents were reported across the state of Jalisco, including in Guadalajara, Chapala and Puerto Vallarta, following a federal law-enforcement operation against organised crime. 

Security incidents were also reported in other parts of Mexico.

On Sunday 22 February, authorities in Puerto Vallarta issued a public advisory to stay indoors. New Zealanders in the affected areas should monitor local media for updates and follow the advice of the local authorities.

Airlines have suspended some flights in Jalisco, including to Puerto Vallarta. Due to highway blockades across the country, bus service has been suspended in many areas. New Zealanders should contact their airline or travel provider for any updates or disruptions to onward travel.
