Kuwait
Terrorism
Terrorism is an ongoing threat in Kuwait. There is a continued threat of attacks in the Gulf region, including on Western interests, residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests. Places of worship have been attacked in the past. Further attacks are possible and could be indiscriminate.
New Zealanders in Kuwait are advised to maintain a high level of personal security awareness, particularly in public places known to be frequented by foreigners.
Ghana
Terrorism
Terrorist attacks are possible in Ghana. There is a heightened risk of terrorist attacks in the northern areas of Ghana which border neighbouring countries, particularly Burkina Faso, where armed groups and militias are active.
Finland
Terrorism
Terrorist groups, individuals returning to Europe from areas of conflict, and individuals adhering to various forms of extremist ideologies, continue to make threats to conduct attacks in Finland and across Europe.

Kazakhstan
Crime
Violent criminals have targeted foreigners in Atyrau and Aktau in western Kazakhstan, and in Astana and Almaty, in the past. Incidents involving tourists typically occur outside of bars and nightclubs after dark, when tourists are leaving the establishments. New Zealanders in Kazakhstan should avoid walking alone and be especially cautious after dark in urban centres, when the risk of crime increases.
Belize
Post Closure
The New Zealand High Commission in Bridgetown (accredited to Belize) has formally closed. New Zealanders who require emergency consular assistance should contact the 24/7 Consular emergency line on 0800 30 10 30 (within New Zealand) or +64 99 20 20 20 (outside of New Zealand) or email cons@mfat.govt.nz.
Political/Security Situation
A transitional government has been in place since May 2021, with presidential elections postponed until after 2024. Monitor local media for updates.
There is a heightened risk of increased instability in Mali due to the withdrawal of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and following the military takeover in neighbouring Niger in July 2023.
Iraq
Security Situation
The security situation in Iraq remains highly volatile and could deteriorate further, with little or no warning. The terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant remains active in parts of the country, as do other violent extremist groups engaged in sectarian, ethnic and tribal violence and organised crime. Political instability, crime and corruption, and civil unrest are also common in Iraq.

The political and security situation in the DRC remains unpredictable. Large-scale demonstrations can be expected in the lead up to elections.
