There is some risk to your security in Serbia and we advise caution. A political process involving the Serbian authorities and the local Albanian minority has resulted in an improved security situation in southern Serbia. Events in Kosovo, however, continue to have an impact in South Serbia and in Belgrade and we recommend you check local developments before setting out.
Travellers are advised to avoid demonstrations and public gatherings and exercise caution at all times. Take special care in boundary areas with Kosovo and avoid areas of military activity.
The Serbian government does not recognise entry points from Kosovo or those on Kosovo’s external borders with Albania or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. For further information, please check the website of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
There are still residual mines in the area between Presevo Valley and Kosovo. Extra care should be taken in areas bordering Kosovo and you should keep to the main roads.

The Republic of Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008, and there is an increased risk of civil disturbance, especially in northern Kosovo. Travellers are advised to check the security situation, including whether border control points in northern Kosovo are operating, and monitor the media for developments before departure. There are residual mines in border areas with Albania, Dulje Pass area by Prizren and in western and southern parts of the province.
There is no New Zealand representation in Serbia/Kosovo.
