Germany shares with the rest of Europe a threat from terrorism. On 31 July 2006, two explosive devices were found on regional trains in the Dortmund and Koblenz areas. Three men were arrested by the German authorities in connection with this terrorist plot.
The German Interior Ministry concluded in a May 2007 report on domestic security that the threat of terrorism to Germany had become more serious. New Zealanders are advised to avoid any demonstrations or rallies and keep themselves informed of potential risks to safety and security by monitoring the media and other local information sources.
New Zealanders travelling to or resident in Germany should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.
New Zealanders resident in or travelling to Germany are encouraged to record their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
